

Agricultural Income Tax (AIT) – Implementation Readiness Update

A virtual progress review meeting on Agricultural Income Tax (AIT) implementation was held with the participation of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), World Bank, and representatives from all provincial revenue authorities. From the Board of Revenue, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, following participated:

The meeting focused on readiness progress across governance arrangements, communication strategy, taxpayer registration, digital filing systems, payment processing, and compliance frameworks. The Board of Revenue, KP reported that leadership structures are in place, field and digital communication activities are ongoing, and initial taxpayer data has been received for verification and system onboarding. Work on technical integration, including linkages with supporting databases, is progressing as per implementation timelines.
KP also shared updates on system readiness for registration, assessment, and payment channels. The AIT Management Information System has been developed and is being aligned with operational requirements to support automated assessment and compliance monitoring. Capacity-building plans, including training for field staff, technical officers, and operational teams, are in the finalization phase.
While no delays are anticipated in launching AIT implementation as scheduled, the province highlighted key support needs, including advanced technical assistance, training on compliance processes, and enhanced access to inter-agency datasets. The IMF and World Bank reaffirmed their commitment to provide technical support, advisory services, and system strengthening in the coming implementation cycle.
